School's Out!

I can't believe that 2017 is flying by so quickly - the kids have already broken up from school, so the summer rainy season will probably begin. Holiday planning is a serious business in my household, we've got trips planned into 2019! This summer we're heading down to a cottage in Dorset, followed by camping in the Yorkshire Dales. I'll be leaving the practices in the safe hands of a great team of people,

All in all I'm pretty easy going when it comes to holidays, as long as the kids and dog get plenty of exercise, and there's the opportunity for al fresco dining, I'm happy. I hope you've got some holidays planned to look forward too, and if you don't have children in school I can let you know all the school holiday dates to avoid when booking your next trip!

One aspect of my job that I really enjoy, is seeing familiar clients returning year after year, I really value the strong relationship that the people within Cooper & Barr have with our customers. For new customers, as the business has grown, I don't get to personally meet many of you, so this newsletter is so that you can get to know who we are, and to show some of our personality - we're not a faceless company, and we like to keep in touch. Your feedback is invaluable, I'm extremely interested in what our customers have to say. Please send your thoughts and comments to This email address is being protected from spambots. New Faces

Alex Peacock - Optometrist.
Alex is the newest member of the team, working mainly at Stokesley and Sedgefield, with the occasional guest appearance in Thirsk. As a young lad, Alex was a patient of ours and an ortho k contact lens wearer, so it looks as though we were a positive influence on his career choice! Alex is also Henry's uncle.

Louise Trever - Dispensing Optician.
Louise joined us last September, and with her cheerful disposition she has settled into independent practice. She is enjoying being able to spend time with clients and really getting to understand their eyewear needs. Louise can be found in Stokesley and Sedgefield.

Baby Henry.
Congratulations are due to optometrist Caroline and partner Peter on the birth of their baby boy Henry - child number 3! We look forward to welcoming Caroline back to work next year.

Eyewear to be seen in

It's fair to say that glasses are making a come back in the style stakes. Every day in the practice we see clients who are up for trying something just that little bit different to the frames they've had before, or what everyone else is wearing. But it's a gradual journey to finding the perfect frames to complement your style and personality, and we never tire of that "wow" moment when the match is made. You're probably so used to seeing yourself in your old glasses that you've been wearing for years, that it may seem daunting to try frames in a more interesting shape or colour. By exploring all the possibilities you can see yourself with fresh eyes, in a variety of styles and looks, and that's what makes it easy to select the right eyewear for you. So be reassured! What might seem bold when you try it on will be perfectly stylish and comfortable after a week of wearing them.

Fancy Equipment

Many moons ago, ancient civilisations used the stars to determine who had the best vision. Obviously things have moved on, and so has our ability to not just correct sight by various means, but also investigate the health of the eyes in ways not thought possible even when I qualified! Being able to pick up problems at an early stage is vital for the treatment of potentially sight threatening conditions. We allow more time for our comprehensive eye tests so that your optometrist can show you the results of the scans, and advise on monitoring or treatment if appropriate. NHS clients can upgrade for a small fee.

We have recently installed an OCT at our Stokesley practice. The latest advancement in imaging technology. Similar to ultrasound, this diagnostic technique employs light rather than sound waves to achieve higher resolution pictures of the structural layers of the back of the eye.

The Optomap ultra-wide digital retinal imaging system captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image. Traditional methods reveal only 10-15% of your retina at a time.

Nikon - Stylish Autumn Lenswear

12th November 2015

Ophthalmic lens technology has advanced to cater for the varying needs of visual correction. There are more than a few types of spectacle lenses to choose from to fulfill your specific visual requirements. If you need a spectacle prescription, there are several factors to consider when choosing the right lenses for you; which type of lenses to pick, the materials they are made in, and some optional coatings to maximise the comfort when wearing.

Our experienced dispensing opticians will advise you on the best solution for your needs. We hear stories all the time of the difficulties that people have adapting to varifocal lenses in particular. Correctly fitting frames, and the right design of varifocal to suit your lifestyle are crucial to success.
